The Mullum midwives were a high energy, vibrant group of woman with colourful personalities. Compassionate, strong, gentle with great humour.
When we met at the hospital two of the midwives had been called away to a home birth in downtown Mullum. The girls felt it was essential to to have them all in the photo and it was agreed upon that we would have a quick location change. This was such a great insight into the bond between the sisters, they are a family, their bond and kinship tight. They spoke about how close they were and likened their relationship to that of family and all the things that go along with family. So it was decided, we would all drive down to the home birth so that we could capture the woman in their entirety. The baby was born just minutes before we arrived, showing up in that kind of energy was special, we had a couple of minutes to get a photo in, no time to check light or location, the gloves from the delivery were even still on. We then went and had a coffee at the girls favourite hangout, leaving the remaining two midwives to tend to mamma. Well known in our town, these ones definitely are held dearly in the hearts of many a local. Their noisy chatter and laughter a great addition to any cafe. The ancient craft of birthing woman is very potent, old medicine! It was beautiful to witness the magic that these SOULS are weaving.
